Everyone knows the old saying “April showers bring May flowers” Well, Our Open Umbrella, in collaboration with the North Attleborough Community Gardens, has those spring needs covered. From April 11-22 (Earth Day), those who make donations of $25 or more will get an exclusive OOU umbrella and a North Attleborough Community Gardens organic wildflower seed packet.
Our Open Umbrella’s main program, the Fuel for the Weekend Program, supports over 160 North Attleborough children each week when they are not receiving food at school. Each child receives a weekend meal and snack bag every week to help alleviate weekend food insecurity. OOU also provides monthly toiletries to members and supports North Attleborough families in emergency situations with food, toiletries, and clothing.
The North Attleborough Community Gardens, located at the nationally registered historic Codding Farm, has created a space where all members can connect with the earth, meet and learn from each other, while growing and harvesting sustainable and local food.
Although this is a new collaborative fundraiser, OOU and the gardens have a longstanding relationship and shared vision of helping others in the community. Each year the gardens plant and grow organic produce to support Fuel for the Weekend members. Last year, town gardeners distributed produce at their food access table at the North Attleborough Farmers Market.
