On Aprill 26, the Downtown Association of North Attleborough, Laughing Shield Comic Shop, and Ashworth Awards, awarded the Community Hero Award to Erin Sweeney, nominated by Lisa Deck.
Sweeney and her family have been active participants at the First Baptist Church’s Soup Kitchen which had to shutter its doors during most of the pandemic to help protect the community. Sweeney realized the need was still there and wanted to continue to give back. Through MOKIES (Moms Of Kids In Every School), a FB group she developed, they created Blessing Bags. Sweeney and a few other mothers from the group made their homes drop-off locations, beginning last November 2020 through March 2021, for donations of food, personal hygiene products and other items for those in need. The group would then assemble the bags and deliver them through the soup kitchen. They team assembled and delivered 1,000 bags in this short time period.
Sweeney is also responsible for the kids’ Lemonade Stand, an outreach program through MOKIES that allows kids to choose the charity they want to give back to. The kids then work the stand, donating the proceeds to the chosen charity.
To donate to these many outreach programs, visit the the MOKIES Facebook page, M.O.K.I.E.S., to keep on top of upcoming events. Blessing Bags are slated to resume this November.
