Candidate Profile: Keith Lapointe for Town Council

Please list any experience on other boards, committees or organizations.

Past: RTM; vice chair, Board of Selectmen; Town Council President; Coach for LNAL/Redhawks; NAYB; NSC; NAJF.

Present: School Committee member, North Attleborough High School Alumni Association Board Member

Why are you running for this position?

North Attleborough is a special place and the community has had a direct impact on who I am.  I grew up here and I chose to return to raise my family here. And because of this, I think about North Attleborough not only for today, but also with an incredible sense of stewardship for the future. North Attleborough residents before us built the amazing community that we enjoy today, and I feel a personal responsibility to pass that on to future generations.

If elected, what issues would you like to focus on?

If elected, I will be focused on ensuring that the Town Council works as an effective legislative body. The charter is still relatively new and it’s important the components of our town government work together to deliver the services our residents need. My priorities include responsible economic development, enabling affordable housing, and funding smart capital and infrastructure maintenance and improvement.

What sets you apart from other candidates?

As a candidate, I provide a unique perspective. I have experience working on town-wide committees, including the council and School Committee, but most importantly I am a proven effective collaborator and communicator. I am able to work across constituencies to build common ground with a focus on getting things accomplished for the benefit of the community.  I am not concerned with politics or ego and only with what is best for North Attleborough.

What are some areas that the town has improved upon and what, in your opinion, remains to be done?

In the past 10 years, tremendous progress has been made. We have improved our financial stability, made progress on the eyesore buildings, improved infrastructure maintenance and seen incremental growth in economic development. We have also reversed what had been a negative trend in the schools. But the job will never be done. Recent events have shown that we still need to do more to demonstrate that our elected bodies can work effectively together.  We need to continue to invest in our infrastructure, while also driving opportunities for efficiency as well.

Being part of a board requires one to be a team player. Does your background lend you to working well in this environment?

Yes, in fact, my ability to be a strong member of the team is the number one reason why I have chosen to get involved again. I have a proven track record of being an effective collaborator, a patient listener, and able to build bridges and find compromises. I have done this professionally as an executive at some of the world’s leading companies: Accenture, Procter & Gamble, and Medtronic and also as the leader of a startup; and I have also done this in my previous experience on the Board of Selectmen, the Town Council, and the School Committee.
