Following two terms as the state representative for the 14th Bristol district, Adam Scanlon has announced his intention to run for re-election.

In an announcement made on Monday, Scanlon (D-North Attleborough) stated that he had filed the necessary paperwork with the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office to seek re-election to the office of Representative in the General Court for the 14th Bristol district.

Scanlon was elected to the position in 2020, flipping a seat long held by Republicans to a Democratic one.

In his announcement, he cited a number of accomplishments over the last four years, including allocating more local aid to the district and securing funding for community projects. These include funding for the Roosevelt School Playground, Sisters@Heart, the North Attleborough Global War on Terror Monument, the North Attleborough High School band, the Greater Attleboro Area Council for Children, a downtown beautification project in Mansfield, Robinson School Playground, the Big Red Bus, and many others.

“Rep. Scanlon continues to be deeply committed to investing in vocational education, he is one of the lead sponsors for legislation that would provide many systemic policy updates to the way the commonwealth approaches career and technical education,” the statement read. “Rep. Scanlon also remains vigilant in his advocacy for providing funding to research, prevention and treatment programs regarding addiction as well as breaking down administrative barriers for people to get the healthcare they need.”

Scanlon teamed up with sexual assault survivors from across the commonwealth in filing legislation that would establish the DNA exception rule, which would allow prosecutors to charge suspects of sexual assault beyond the statute of limitations if DNA evidence is available.

To address the housing and migrant crises, Scanlon believes in “robust policy measures that will grow housing production as well as policies that will ensure our shelter system is fiscally responsible, accountable and efficient while also remaining as humane as possible.”

“I look forward to sharing these successes with my fellow residents as well as taking the time to learn what their priorities are for the next legislative session,” Scanlon wrote. “We can continue to be bold in how we invest in education, mental health and housing production. We can continue to make the 14th Bristol district a special place to live where all can celebrate success in achieving the American dream. Most importantly, I want to continue to ensure that North Attleborough, Mansfield and Attleboro not only have a place at the table at the State House, but ensure that these towns have a role in designing the menu of opportunity as well.”
