Over the last 30 years, the town’s gazebo has been the site of summer concerts, award presentations, and annual visits from Santa Claus.
To ensure it will be good for another three decades, the popular location is now undergoing a number of repairs. According to Parks and Recreation Director Steven Carvalho, the work began over the weekend and will take 10 days to complete. It will include upgrading electrical systems, refacing the deck, stairs and railings, and repairing the lattice undercarriage. Painting will be done in the spring, as the wood will need time to cure.
“We’re excited about getting it in,” he said.
The project will be paid for through the Capital Improvement Plan. Carlvaho said the repairs are needed due to general wear and tear that has accumulated over the years. Two years ago, the roof was replaced and the current repairs will continue that work.
The gazebo, located in Veteran Park outside Town Hall, is used for a number of events, including the Cultural Council’s Summer Concert Series and DANA’s annual Santa Parade. Different organizations can use it as well. The gazebo is often decorated for the holiday season.
